It has been seven months and I keep doing the thing where I turn around to tell you something before I remember the time difference.
So I made you this instead. It is quieter than a phone call and you can watch it at 2am when you cannot sleep, which I know you do, because you have always done that.
Take your time with it.

FILE 01 / THEN + NOW
Same roots. Updated versions.
Terrace, 2007. Counting aeroplanes and calling them satellites.Airport, last March. Seven minutes before you went through security.
FILE 02 / ORIGIN STORY
Where the lore begins.
The terrace, 2007. You were nine and I was twelve and the power had gone again.
You made me lie on the concrete and count satellites with you. I said there were no satellites. You pointed at an aeroplane and said "that one" with such total certainty that I stopped arguing and just counted aeroplanes with you for an hour.
I still count them. In a different sky now, which is the whole problem.
FILE 03 / INCIDENT REPORT
FAMILY-FAMOUS CHAOS
The story nobody is allowed to forget.
The wedding. Cousin Nikhil's wedding. You were meant to be holding the tray.
I still do not know how you managed to walk into the mandap, trip on nothing at all, and take down an entire table of gulab jamun in front of two hundred people. But I know that you stood up, looked directly at the videographer, and said "keep rolling".
They kept rolling. The video exists. Bua plays it at every function. You are the only person I know who turned a disaster into a permanent family screening.
FILE 04 / EXTRA EVIDENCE
Photos with context.
The walk to the station we did a hundred times without thinking about it.Nikhil's wedding, thirty seconds before the gulab jamun incident.
RESTRICTED / ONLY WE GET IT
Meaningless to everyone else.

FINAL FILE / NEXT CHAPTER
A memory not made yet.
Break the seal
You are coming home in December. I have booked nothing, arranged nothing and promised nothing to anybody else.
One night, the terrace, no phones. We count whatever is up there and we do not talk about work.

RETURN ONE FILE TO SENDER
Your turn, Ri.
This is the reply block. On a real archive it is an empty form; here it shows what Riya sent back, exactly as the creator would read it on their private page.
😭Returned by Riya
Memory check: You said there were no satellites and then counted eleven planes.
I read this at 3am, exactly as predicted, and now I'm awake and crying in a country where nobody knows why.
December. Terrace. I'll bring the good chai. Do not tell Bua I'm coming or the whole street will be there.
THAT WAS THE FILM REEL THEME
Yours takes about ten minutes.
The cover blurs to sepia and irises shut like a lens; each file then slides in from the left.
